Internet Use Policy

Adopted by the Harrison County Public Library Board of Trustees 31 March 2011.

1. You must have a current Harrison County Public Library Card, in good standing, or sign in as a visitor. Patrons under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the visitor card in the presence of a library staff member. 
2. Patrons may only use their own library card number.
3. Children under 10 years of age must have a caregiver 14 years or older in the computer area.
4. Users are allowed two one-hour sessions per day.  Time can be extended at the discretion of the Reference Staff.
5. Loud talking, sound files, or disruptive children are not allowed. Headphones are available for checkout at the Reference Desk.
6. Patrons are responsible for anything that prints from their computer.  Even blank pages will be charged.  Patrons are encouraged to use print preview and other options within the print window in order to avoid printing excess pages.
7. The computers are available the same hours as the library; however they automatically shut down 15 minutes before closing.
8. The library is not responsible for information lost due to computer malfunction, time running out, when sites are improperly exited, or stored on the computer between sessions.
9. Library computer workstations and networks may not be used to access, upload, download, distribute or transmit pornographic, obscene, abusive or sexually explicit material or language, nor to transmit pirated or other illegal media. If a library staff member observes a person viewing such material, they will not be allowed to continue using the computer that day.  If abuse occurs a second time, the patron will lose their Internet privileges permanently. This is a public area that will be monitored in order to maintain optimal assistance and security.
   
   All printing and saving must be done at least 15 minutes prior to closing.
   
   **You may be asked to leave the library and/or denied Internet privileges if you are unable to follow these rules.

 Harrison County Public Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from use of Internet services.

Suspension of Library Use Privileges

If the Library Director decides to suspend a person's Library use privileges, the patron will be informed in person if in the library, and/or the person will be informed by letter. A copy of the letter will be kept on file at an appropriate location. If the person has a Harrison County Public Library card, he/she will be blocked from Library use for the duration of the suspension.
