Part-Time Circulation Librarian
Department: Adult Library
Reports to: Adult Lead Library Associate
Certification Level: Not Required
Hours: Alternating 8 hours the first week. 16 hours the second week, for a total of 24 hours per pay period.
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Provides friendly, high quality customer service to Library patrons under the direction of the Lead Library Associate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Cooperative attitude and dependability; ability to organize work and exercise good judgment.
- Personality, attitude and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff members in a professional manner.
- Must be aware of and adhere to library policies.
- Knowledge of various computer applications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 15 lbs. Average mobility needed. Ability to stand, walk, reach, hold, carry, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, push and maneuver book carts.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Charges books, magazines and other library holdings in and out at the circulation desk
- Collects any fees using an automated circulation system and notes the fees paid on the daily cash log
- Reserves and renews books and other materials
- Issues library cards to patrons and able to properly determine the correct type of card to be issued. (residential, reciprocal, paid, PLAC)
- Checks materials for damage and reports damage to Circulation manager or patron services
- Replaces books, magazines and other library holdings on shelves according to numbering and alphabetical sequences
- Empties book and media drops at regular intervals
- Assists patrons in locating materials
- Assists patrons with pay copier if needed
- Operates facsimile machine
- Answers in-house calls and provides routine information or transfers calls
- Assists in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and
re-shelving of materials, as needed - Shifts collections to make room for new materials
- Sorts mail and places items in appropriate mailboxes
- Follows opening and closing procedures
- Performs related work as required
- Attends staff meetings
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of library clerical procedures and practices

Summer Part-Time Children’s Library Assistant
The Corydon Branch of the Harrison County Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and kid-friendly individual for the position of Youth Services Assistant.
Qualifications include: a High School Diploma or equivalent, basic computer skills, dependability, a cooperative attitude, experience with children, and good customer service skills.

Position Description: Energetic, creative, and kid-friendly person needed to assist Youth Services staff. Candidate must enjoy working with children, have a positive attitude, and be computer literate.
The Youth Services Assistant will be responsible for cleaning and shelving books, helping patrons, assisting in the general upkeep of the Children’s Department, and other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge of youth literature and previous library experience is preferred. Must have a willingness to learn and to work well with others. This position is not a desk job.
Hours: 12-23.5 hours per week during June and July, with the possibility of some hours during the school year. Evening and Saturday availability is required. Training would be in May, with regular
hours beginning in June.

Reference Assistant

OBJECTIVE:
To assist HCPL patrons both onsite and off, maintain order of the nonfiction collection, and facilitate the transmission of interlibrary loans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Working knowledge of reference tools and the Dewey Decimal system
- Extensive experience with technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Drive, email, internet, social media, and general computer troubleshooting
- Availability for working evenings and weekends
- Positive public service attitude and good communication skills
- Capable of standing, walking, reaching, and bending for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift heavy library materials (approx. 25 lbs)
