Not Your Mother's Book Club

If you love to read, this book club is for you! Various genres will be read based on participant’s ideas. The Not Your Mother’s Book Club meets the last Thursday of each month. Registration is recommended since space is limited. Call the Palmyra branch at 812-364-6425 for more information.

Makerspace and Circulation Assistant

Lanesville Branch
Reports to: Assistant Director and Director
Hours per week: 15 (part-time)

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Makerspace and Circulation Assistant will provide general library services to patrons and perform some work of a specialized nature while assisting patrons in using the library collection and substituting in the makerspace as needed. This is a part-time position that requires 15 hours per week.  This position is scheduled two days a week: Tuesday & Wednesday from 11 am to 7 pm one week, and Tuesday and Saturday 9 am to 5 pm the next week. Dependability and consistent attendance are required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school education
  2. Some familiarity with crafting, technology and related makerspace equipment
  3. Cooperative attitude and ability to organize work and exercise good judgment
  4. Personality, attitude and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff members in a professional manner
  5. Must be aware of and adhere to library and makerspace policies
  6. Knowledge of computer applications
  7. Understand the necessity for, and maintain confidentiality of library users

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Circulation services

  • Charges books, magazines and other library holdings in and out at the circulation desk
  • Collects any fees using an automated circulation system and notes the fees paid on the daily cash log
  • Reserves and renews books and other materials
  • Issues library cards to patrons and able to properly determine the correct type of card to be issued. (residential, reciprocal, paid)
  • Checks materials for damage and reports damage to supervisor
  • Replaces books, magazines and other library holdings on shelves according to numbering and alphabetical sequences
  • Empties book and media drops at regular intervals
  • Assists patrons in locating materials
  • Assists patrons with pay copier if needed
  • Operates facsimile machine
  • Answers in-house calls and provides routine information or transfers calls
  • Assists in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and
    re-shelving of materials, as needed
  • Shifts collections to make room for new materials
  • Follows opening and closing procedures
  • Performs related work as required

Makerspace services

  1. Assist users of all ages in the makerspace with a variety of machinery and software including 3D printers, laser engraver/cutter, vinyl printer/cutter, poster printer, Cricut, Adobe software, Corel Draw, and other equipment as added
  2. Assist in the maintenance of equipment for the makerspace
  3. Able to troubleshoot a variety of devices.
  4. Working knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office Applications
  5. Keep abreast of trends in technology
  6. Maintain good relations with public and staff.
  7. Assist patrons in identifying and locating information using computerized and print resources.
  8. Follow and enforce policies and procedures consistently.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
  10. Commitment to excellence in customer service.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of library clerical procedures and practices
  • Good knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System
  • Good ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Good ability to pay attention to detail
  • Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates and the general public

OTHER:

  1. Cooperating as a team member with the library staff in performing any duties essential to the achievement of the objectives of the library
  2. Doing related work as required

Maintenance Volunteer

Job Title: Maintenance Support

Reports to: Head of Grounds and Maintenance

Job Location: Corydon branch

Start Date: As soon as possible

Job Type: One-time job

Hours: 7:00 am-12 noon

JOB DESCRIPTION: Help with spraying cleaner on the building while the maintenance department power washes the building. Also, keep hoses untangled, hold the ladder, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Able to stand for long periods; able to lift 25Ibs; able to be out in the sun.

Classes will meet every Monday 6PM-7PM at the Main Branch in Corydon.

This ESL program is intended for adult learners wanting to improve their English language skills in order to help them work and fully participate in the life of their communities.
